September Garden Bouquet

Whew! The rain finally stopped. “Baby Bear” Turtle (my rain gauge) measured just over 3 inches. But, south of here, places like Owatonna and Amboy got between 8 and 10 inches. Schools and roads were closed today and people were evacuated from their homes because of the flooding.

I thought everything in the gardens would be either drowned or shredded after having been pelted with heavy rains for two days, but when I went out this morning, the roses and lavender were still looking fresh and lovely. So, I cut a few blooms and brought them to the office with me! It’s been a while since I cut a bouquet for the office and it turned out to be just the thing to perk up a dreary day. The fragrance of the roses and lavender periodically wafted across my desk and for a few moments, it wasn’t 56 and blustery, it was 85 and sunny. Ahhhhhhh.

I’m sure these will be the last roses of the season. Tomorrow, I’ll cut the rest of the lavender for a sachet. Who knows what will be blooming in the gardens a month from now? I’m guessing asters and maybe some hyssop, which seems to be making a comeback.

Thanks to Noelle at Ramblings from a Desert Garden for hosting the Monthly Garden Bouquet.

Your bouquet is so sweet with that pretty little vase. I live in No. Illinois and we just got the rains here yesterday...though not as much as you did. It was really needed, because everything is so dry. It will make digging to plant bulbs so much easier.Have a nice weekend.. Balisha

Hi Balisha; Thank you. I typically use canning jars or other recycled glass for my vases, but yesterday, I grabbed this one off the shelf in the sunroom. It somehow seemed to fit with the droopy roses. I'm glad you appreciate the rain. We've been getting storm after storm here with no time between for me to empty the rain barrels, so I'm looking forward to a nice dry day! I'm going to shop for bulbs later today but probably won't plant for a week or so. Thank you for stopping by.

Hello Auntie K,

I am thankful that the rainfall did not do damage to your garden. 3 inches is a lot of rain at one time.

I am partial to roses and I love how bringing the outdoors in can just brighten any room. Your bouquet is just lovely and I appreciate you participating.

Hi Noelle, Three inches IS a lot at one time. But, we got off lucky! I'm partial to roses, too. (I have 14 of them in the gardens here!) I found your meme on another blogger's post and like the idea/challenge of creating a bouquet every month. I'm in Minneapolis, so I *may* get a bouquet in October that isn't entirely evergreens and dried berries. We'll see! Thanks so much for hosting!
